What is a Hair Detangler?
Kids are active, running around all day and then crashing hard once they are finally asleep. All this activity and hard sleep create tangles. Tangles grow into knots and sometimes matted hair. This is not fun for any adult who is waving a brush at a child trying to brush their hair. This is when the fights and tears happen. Enter detanglers; they have been designed to ease the pain of tangles.
Adults also enjoy detanglers for the same reasons as kids. Bondi Boost has a diverse range of products, including products marketed towards kids. I bought Bondi Boost Kids Super Spray Detangler originally for myself, but I have also tested it on kid hair. The review will give you some answers about how the detangler works on adult and kid hair.
Why do you say I bought a kid detangler when there are plenty of adult ones on the market? I have been a long-time user of Bondi Boost products. I like many of their products, but their Conditioning Tangle Therapy is not vegan. The adult detangler contains hydrolyzed collagen. I know it's disappointing, especially since many Bondi Boost products are, in fact, vegan. I’m not sure about their logic with this product.
I told myself that marketing doesn’t matter. It’s what’s in the bottle that’s important, and I shyly bought the kid's product because it is vegan.

Claims Made About Bondi Boost Kids Super Spray Detangler
The main benefit of detanglers is fewer tangles. Other benefits may include conditioning, less frizz, heat protection and more. Bondi Boost’s Kids Super spray markets itself as a lightweight leave-in spray designed to banish tangles in children over two.
Bondi Boost describes the product as being so lightweight that it does not weigh down hair. This implies that the spray will be good for fine hair. I have fine hair, so this appealed to me.
Some other benefits promoted are the pro-vitamin B5 and marshmallow root extract that allegedly work together to smooth and protect the cuticle surface and provide anti-static and anti-frizz. The grape seed extract and argan oil allegedly restore shine and vibrancy to create beautiful, healthy-looking hair. The final claim is that “hair is left feeling nourished, conditioned and oh-so silky.”
Review of Claims Made
Is the product lightweight?
The Bondi Boost site has some big talk to live up to, but does it? Let’s take a closer look. The name Kids Super Spray Detangler tells the consumer, the target audience, that it is a spray designed to detangle hair as well as add moisture. It is straightforward marketing. However, by reading the reviews on the website, the term lightweight is open to interpretation.
The product is a lightweight spray that is quite liquid in an oil-based way. It is not the more common conditioner type of detangling spray or cream that we may typically associate with detanglers, especially child detanglers. Now, anyone who has fine hair probably red-flagged when I mentioned oil. Anything oily on fine hair has the potential to weigh our hair down and make it appear greasy.
This is not a spray you want to use around the roots of your hair if you have fine hair that can look greasy easily. Even though it is lightweight, it is lightweight for normal hair. If you have normal hair, this product may work well for you. People with fine hair will need to use this spray towards the ends of their hair and only lightly.

I enjoy using it while my hair is wet with a wide-tooth comb to help bring out the waves in my hair. If used in this way, it helps control frizz. Once my hair is dry and I brush it, you can notice a light oily layer. It does not bring out the shine on fine hair. If anything, once brushed out, it makes my hair look dull and a little greasy.
Does it detangle hair?
It is not an effective detangler in my experience. It does not effectively detangle my hair; it just makes it wet. I inevitably end up grabbing my old detangler and getting the job done.
In the child experiment, it also did not tangle hair. She has normal long hair, and we gave it a shot. It did give her hair some shine, but the child was unimpressed with the detangling ability of the product and threw it back at me. She also ended up using my old detangler to get the job done.
Final Words on Bondi Boost Detangler Review
Here are the main points of my review: Bondi Boost Kids Super Spray Detangler is a well-marketed and presented product. It has a pleasant smell and some good quality ingredients. It is ethically made, but the ethics of the company are questioned when the adult product is not vegan.
Performance needs to live up to the hype. This product is expensive and underperforms. I would not recommend it and would suggest steering clear, especially if you have fine hair. Some conditioners with a wide tooth comb in the shower would be better at detangling and conditioning.
