What Tea is Good for Constipation?

Constipation involves hard, infrequent bowel movements, often leading to discomfort, pain and bloating. Teas can stimulate the gut, aiding regularity.

The top causes of constipation

These teas might help but should be a temporary solution. Ideally, it would help if you investigated the root cause of your constipation. Here are the top ten causes of constipation:

What tea is good for constipation

1. Dandelion Tea

Dandelion tea is one of my favourite teas. I recommend dandelion chia tea. It is a mild laxative and diuretic. Dandelion tea can promote digestive health and relieve constipation by increasing bowel movements. If you are on medications, you should be cautious due to the diuretic effect.

2. Ginger Tea

Ginger stimulates the digestive system, helping to move food through the gastrointestinal tract more quickly and ease constipation. Ginger tea is a staple in my household.

3. Peppermint Tea

Peppermint can relax the muscles of the digestive tract, potentially easing constipation. Its antispasmodic properties also help reduce discomfort. Peppermint can be soothing if you are having stomach issues.

4. Green Tea

Green tea has mild laxative properties and supports overall digestive health, making it beneficial for mild cases of constipation. Green tea is the super tea. It seems to pop up in many of these most helpful tea lists: watch the caffeine level.

5. Senna Tea

Senna is a potent natural laxative due to its sennoside content, which directly stimulates intestinal movements to alleviate constipation. I have not tried this tea, so I cannot recommend it. Senna tea also comes with the warning that it should be used with caution as it can cause dependency if used too often.

Summary

Teas can be a natural way to boost your hydration and help to get things moving. Always consult with a healthcare provider before using herbal teas for constipation, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are pregnant. Thank you for reading What Tea is Good for Constipation.
